Professional Certification in Cultivated Meat: From Fundamental to Industrial Application, endorsed by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)


Cultivated meat has recently emerged as an alternative source of protein that could meet future demand while addressing the challenges associated with traditional livestock. In this training, participants will be introduced to the general concepts of cellular agriculture and the use of bioprocessing technologies in cultivated meat production. Participants will gain laboratory experience in cell culture cultivation and bioreactor operation as they traverse the path from cell isolation to ultimately generating a final product. 

Course Learning Outcomes:

To obtain an up-to date overview of mammalian cell culture cultivation in the field of bio-manufacturing: 

  1. Define various cell types, metabolism, cultivation modes and bioreactor types
  2. Explain the importance of preparation, sterilisation, monitor and quality control of cultivation process
  3. Identify the parameters considerations and possible challenges of upstream scale-up
  4. Demonstrate hands-on cultivation skills through practical experience of mammalian cell culture cultivation and bioreactor operation.

Diploma in Biotechnology and Life Sciences related field
